Who should attend?

The course is aimed at people who want to improve their confidence and ability to positively assert themselves and achieve greater satisfaction.  The learning is focused on each individuals needs and there is a high level of personal coaching to support each person achieving their objectives.

 

NB: We do not believe in placing people in any situation of embarrassment by demanding that they 'perform' in front of the whole group. So you can relax: come on this course and be at ease; ready to learn!

 

 

Course Content

  • Assertiveness is an emotion. And all emotions are a product of your thinking.
  • In any situation how you feel about it will determine how you react, how you feel will change what you say and how you say it. If you feel weak and non-assertive, then you will act accordingly and gain poor results.
  • If you feel confident and assertive, then you will act accordingly and gain good results.
  • Your thoughts are a self-fulfilling prophecy, learn how manage your thoughts and therefore how to mange your emotions so as to achieve higher levels of satisfaction.
  • Train your mind to focus on what you want.
  • The 4 ways to approach conflict situations:
  • Rationally assertive: the proper method.
  • Emotional and angry: the wrong method.
  • Emotional and upset: another wrong method.
  • Avoidance: another wrong method.
  • Learn the difference between “identity statements” and “behavioural statements.”
  • Learn the difference between “objective” and “subjective” language.
  • The difference between “reasons” and “excuses” and what policy you should have to each one.
  • The assertive use of body language.
  • The assertive use of voice tones.
  • The proper use of praise and appreciation.

You’ll learn practical skills for dealing with conflict situations at work by learning how to manage your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Assertiveness is about learning important techniques that help you to strike the right balance between being firm  and flexible when dealing with people. You’ll learn about the assertive use of body language, how to sound assertive, and how to become a more effective communicator. This course considers individual needs and no one will be expected to do embarrassing role-plays in front of the whole class.
